Wine: Barboursville Vineyards 2004 Cabernet Franc Reserve

Review: Barboursville used to produce two versions of Cabernet Franc: the reserve, which sold for $30 and the non-reserve which sold for $15. Starting with the 2004 vintage they started selling just the reserve for $20. This is great for Virginia wine drinkers because their reserve Cabernet Franc is fantastic.
This is a rich wine with a deep color, full body and aromas of black cherry and cedar. It has an intense flavor that stays on the palette and very light tannins.
Price: $20
Grade: 95

You have reviewed one of my favorite Virginia wines. I have given the B'ville Reserve Cab Franc as a gift to ever-grateful recipients. I have a bottle in my collection with plenty of dust on it, waiting for a special occasion. For a varietal that doesn't get a whole lot of respect as a stand-alone, Virginia is making some good ones and this is one of the best.

I visited Barboursville just last weekend and had some of the Cab Franc and thought it was great stuff. Enjoyed the Reisling too. For the most part, I am a red wine person, but when it comes to Virginia wines, I prefer the whites for some reason.
