Buyers from China are particularly interested in the most well-known estates from Medoc, Saint-Emilion, Sauternes and Pessac-Leognan and don't want to miss out on an historic vintage, he said.I wouldn't have mentioned the article, except for the last paragraph, which quotes Jean-Philippe Delmas from Chateau Haut-Brion saying the following:
While export volumes fell 14 percent last year, sales to the Chinese market almost doubled.
Wine merchants, especially those in Britain, see the Chinese market as a key target for the 2009 vintage.
China is adding to pressure on the market, but in 10 years' time, we'll be talking about South AmericaThis is the first I have heard about South America being an up and coming Bordeaux market. Thoughts?
Update: Changed South African references to South America, sorry about that.

The 2009 futures do give alot to talk about!! Just one question , is it South Africa or South America?? You put both in the Article!
Thanks for the catch! South America is correct.
Yes, I'm surprised you don't hear much talk about South America. I understand Brazil alone has tremendous opportunity (one of the "BRIC" nations).
My friend (co-owner of Chateau La Gatte, a Bordeaux Superior) has been selling his wine there for some time now (primarily in the city of Sao Paulo) and has been very pleased with the outcome.
