Tasting Room Tipping

I got the opportunity to visit the Temecula Wine Country a few weeks ago and had a great time. I'll write more about my experience there soon, but I wanted to throw something out there.

All of the tasting rooms I visited had tip jars, which is not something I had seen before this trip. I've never read any tipping etiquette guides which suggest tipping in a tasting room, but I recognize that tasting rooms aren't something people visit every day.

So, I'd like to get the thoughts of you all. Do you tip at tastings, and if so, how much?

I haven't ... but it probably isn't a bad idea.

I have never seen a tip jar. I don't think it is a good idea. The main point of tasting is to try the wine for purchasing or future purchases. Isn't it just good business to offer tastings without tipping?

I have only seen this in Temecula and the Malibu area. Areas popular for party wine buses. I've been to numerous (respected) wine regions and have never seen this. A tasting room is not a bar. I taste to sample your wine in hopes that I may purchase a bottle or two. The tasting fee is to compensate the server and opened bottle. I am not there to just grab a drink.
