The clip above is a partial clip of the interview Stephen Mackey did with Sam Brown, owner of Crooked Run Orchard. We'll let you know when the full interview is available.
This is a moving story and one that disgusts me. The Town of Purcellville is unnecessarily destroying a 250 year old farm for a road that will not solve any of the traffic problems that plague Purcellville.
They are building a road that will allow for two more strip malls, plus a Walmart when they can't keep stores open in the existing strip malls. The Purcellville Town Council claims to be business friendly, but only for the right kind of business. National chains, with deep coffers, who can make hefty donations to their campaigns are welcome. The small businesses who have been the lifeblood of Purcellville since its inception are no longer welcome.

Sam and Uta Brown have apples sitting on their apple trees that they cannot harvest. They no longer have access to their and sheds. And to top it off, the Town Council purposely re-routed the fence to include Boxwoods that have been on the farm forever, for no other reason than to be petty (see the image below).
I am not anti-business, not by a long-shot, but this type of behavior on the part of the Purcellvile Town Council is unacceptable. I encourage everyone who reads this to do something about.
You can donate to the Crooked Run Orchard Defense Fund, you can e-mail your displeasure (always politely) to the Town Council, and Tweet, Blog, and Post to Facbook. Make the people of Loudoun aware of what is going on.
