I admit it, I am a big fan of Le Wine Buffs, the group of Sommeliers the Bordeaux marketing people engage with to help promote Bordeaux wines around the United States.
Think about it: Their job is to go around the country and tell people how great wines from Bordeaux are!
When I was contacted by the Bordeaux marketing team here in the States and invited to meet Le Wine Buffs at Wine Riot, here in DC, I jumped at the chance!
I have another post planned on Wine Riot itself, but meeting Le Wine Buffs was great. There was a passion for Bordeaux in everyone I talked to and that passion transferred to the people tasting the wine at the event. It didn't hurt that they were pouring excellent wines.
They were pouring 5 wines that night, from different regions in Bordeaux. My favorite of the evening was from our good friends at Domaine de Chevalier, their 2009 Rosé, called Rosé de Chevalier. This is a great value wine at only $10, it has a nice blend of strawberry and cherry aromas and a fresh palate, that hints at sweetness while still giving you the structure you'd expect from from Cabernet-based rosé. An excellent wine and a great bargain.
In addition to the Rosé de Chevalier, they also featured a 2005 Château Piney, 2008 Château Clarke, 2009 Château Rieussec "R" de Rieussec and a 2008 Domaine de La Solitude.
What I liked about all of the wines is that they were all ready to drink now, and they were all priced under $25.00. This is great exposure to Bordeaux for people at the event, it shows Bordeaux wines are not only approachable, but can be fun!
